Lost in Static by Christina Phillipou

I was really excited to take part in the Blog Tour for Lost in Static.

I was really surprised that Lost in Static is a debut novel, as it is so well written. This book begins with a tragic event and then goes back to where it all began. We are treated to four people’s points of view in this book as the writer leads us up to what happened at the beginning of the book.

I’m not normally a big fan of more than one main character because I find it hard to bond as well as you do with just one or two characters. However, in this book the characters are so well written and fleshed out that I didn’t have that problem at all. I loved how you can find something relatable in each of the characters (even Yasmine who I found very hard to like) and I have to say I found each of the characters unique especially Juliette. I don’t think I’ve read many books with a character like her and I enjoyed seeing religion from this perspective. I really liked the fact that we got to see the same version of events but from different viewpoints. It was intelligently written to do this so seamlessly.

The setting is at University and I thought this was brilliant. It made me reminiscent of my time at university and I could relate to certain situations that the characters experienced. I loved this realistic look at that life changing experience in people’s lives. I’ve always believed that going to University is about discovering who you are as a person.

There is tension throughout this book and I couldn’t stop reading until I knew what happened. I was so wrapped up in this story and there were so many twists and turns that had me enthralled. Considering there were four main characters I am seriously impressed with the character development in this book. It felt like I was at University with them. These characters stay with you long after you reach the brilliant ending.
I am really looking forward to reading more from this author.
